The Old Globe is delighted to announce the tenth annual presentation of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
The Old Globe was given the rights to produce this play as a gift from Audrey Geisel honoring her late husband, Theodor Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss). Her intention was that this be a holiday gift to all of the people of San Diego, particularly children.
Furthering Mrs. Geisel’s intentions, the Grinch Children’s Initiative was created in order to provide 4,000 free tickets to children enrolled in Title I schools in San Diego County.
With the incredibly generous support from the Helen K. and James S. Copley Foundation and the San Diego Union-Tribune, as well as several other local and national companies and foundations, local children are able to experience the magic of live theatre. Our goal is to make these tickets available to children who might not otherwise be able to attend.
Additionally, The Old Globe Education Department has set a goal for itself to provide preparation activities for all schools attending our free student matinees. Attending a live theatrical performance is a powerful experience that is enhanced through planned activities and lessons.
All teachers attending Grinch performances with their classes will participate in a unique professional development workshop at The Old Globe.
