Grinch Student Matinees

The Old Globe is delighted to announce the thirteenth annual presentation of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
The Old Globe was given the rights to produce this play as a gift from Audrey Geisel honoring her late husband, Theodor Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss). Her intention was that this be a holiday gift to all of the people of San Diego, particularly children.

Furthering Mrs. Geisel’s intentions, the Grinch Children’s Initiative was created in order to provide free tickets to children enrolled in Title I schools in San Diego County. Our goal is to make these tickets available to children who might not otherwise be able to attend.

Schools interested in applying for tickets to The Old Globe's 2011 free student matinees of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! should click here.

Additionally, The Old Globe Education Department has set a goal for itself to provide preparation activities for all schools attending our free student matinees. Attending a live theatrical performance is a powerful experience that is enhanced through planned activities and lessons.  All teachers attending Grinch performances with their classes will participate in a unique professional development workshop at The Old Globe.  A Study Guide with lesson ideas tied to state curriculum standards is provided on this website.
