The Laurel Street Bridge Has Reopened

Caltrans’ work on the face of the Cabrillo Bridge (Laurel Street) has completed, and Globe audiences can now drive into Balboa Park from the West again! In addition, the Alcazar Garden Parking lot is refurbished, re-graded, and better than ever—with more accessible parking! Old Globe audiences can again access the park via Laurel Street, and cars can again pass right in front of the Globe on El Prado. Just in time for the Globe’s 80th Anniversary!

Driving North

Take Interstate 5 to the Sixth Avenue exit. Turn right (north) and follow Sixth Avenue to Laurel Street. Turn right (east) on Laurel and drive straight into Balboa Park.

Driving South

Take Interstate 5 into San Diego. Exit at Sassafras Street and follow Kettner Boulevard to Laurel Street (second stop light). Turn left (east) on Laurel and drive straight into Balboa Park.

Driving East (via Harbor)

From Point Loma, take Harbor Drive west from Rosecrans. Turn left onto Laurel Street. Pass Sixth Avenue, and drive straight into Balboa Park.

Driving West

Take Interstate 8 to 163. Go south on 163 and exit at University Avenue. At the light, continue straight along Sixth Avenue to Laurel. Turn left (east) on Laurel and drive straight into Balboa Park.

For handicapped drop-off or 10 minute ticket purchase.

From Park Blvd., turn on Village Place and drive into Balboa Park. Turn right onto Old Globe Way and continue until you meet the theatre. Patrons are permitted to park for a maximum of 10 minutes.

Parking Assistance

Parking is free in Balboa Park in various lots, including Alcazar lot (closest but fills up quickly), Organ Pavillion lot (best availability), as well as the Aerospace Museum and Hall of Champions lots. Most of these are within a 5-10 minute walk from the theatre. There are additional lots a bit further from the Globe (10-15 minute walk) around the Natural History Museum and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. Please click here for a map of Balboa Park indicating parking areas.

Valet Parking

Valet parking is available nightly beginning at 5 p.m. for a fee between the Japanese Friendship Garden and the Prado Restaurant. For more information,
contact LAZ Parking at (858) 587-8888.

New Balboa Park Trams

The new Balboa Park Trams are available to all park guests from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., seven days a week (9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the summer). The vehicles depart from Tram Central, next to the large parking lots near Inspiration Point (east of Park Boulevard at President's Way). They leave every 10 to 12 minutes, and follow a loop route, taking passengers to a drop-off station in the Plaza de Panama. For more information, contact the Visitor's Center at (619) 239-0512.
